Changing Our Story, Chasing Success & Having A Broken Heart

Hello my friend,

The way we choose to see the world determines our path.

Take two different people facing the exact same challenge in their lives.

One is overwhelmed. They see it as a threat and they steer away.

One is excited. They see it as an opportunity and they lean into it.

This might be a basic example but countless studies have shown that it’s rarely the situations or circumstances we face that define us. It’s the way we choose to see them and the story we tell ourselves about them.

The story of who we are and of the world around us. The way we frame the failures and the challenges we have to endure or confront.

These are the biggest determining factor to the quality of the life we will have.

Change your story, change your life - Tony Robbins.

Divorce the limitations we commonly tell ourselves of the shame or guilt. The ones of what wasn’t right or what we went wrong.

Choosing to change the story about them. Creating a different one. A better one.

This doesn’t mean to say we should just ignore any hardship or suffering we’ve faced.

It means changing and repurposing the story we telling about them and about ourselves.

A story that will continue to break us or one that will start to lift us.

Every human-being ever lived has had their own fair share of suffering and hurt.

Some have gone on to use it as fuel and a source of great strength.

Others have allowed it to hold them back and suffocate them.

Hardship, suffering and pain are part of the human experience.

It is the way in which we see them and the story we tell of them that defines their meaning.

Our story holds the power.

A person with everything can feel like they have nothing, if their story tells so.

A person with nothing can feel like they have everything, if their story tells so.

Two cases that certainly aren’t rare today.

Your story is as you choose it to be.

The world and our life is as we choose to see it.

Things I’m learning

What we think success is that isn’t.

“Most people’s dreams are very external, like champions - they want to win a medal, they want a trophy, want a nice car and all that stuff. And you get it, and you have everything and you realise this isn’t what I wanted.” - Chris Bumstead

The sign you needed.

“If it excites you and scares you at the same time, it probably means you should do it.” - Cindi Madsen

What we learn from a broken heart.

“If you have a broken heart, it means you have done something big enough and important enough and valuable enough to have broken your heart.” - Daniel Pink

Question

Do you already know the answer you’re searching for? Are you just waiting on the approval of others to make it?

That’s all for this week, thank you for reading.

With Love, Nick.

P.S: Thank you for the amazing messages and support after the documentary was released last friday!
